This book talks about how they made the railway. It shows great pictures. It has lots of details like how to build a railway and what material they used, like dynamite. Now I know know the first trains on the railway were steam trains. And there are pictures of where the CP tracks go. Van Horne was the leader of building the CPR because about 159 years ago America was trying to buy up the land so they needed to build the railway to keep all of Canada together, and they founded a company called the Canadian Pacific Railway. And it took a long time but the CPR was built. And it's still around today. This is a great book. I like reading it over and over again. When I read it it makes me feel happy. You should read it too.

Your life, so far Nathan, is like mine! Only I started to love trains in a big CN town (Stratford, Ont.) in the early 1940s, and everything was steam, steam, steam. The employees liked me as a kid and were very kind. I am really old now (80!) but I live near Union Station downtown Toronto and see lots of trains (mostly GO and a few VIA trains too). All those years I took hundred of B&W photos -- some not as good as your pictures. Stratford was a busy terminal, also location of large repair shops, but not since 1963. Some buildings still there -- empty and a bit spooky -- but memories for people like me who remember all the activity and excitement. Have fun in your train interest. It is a great hobby for people.

I love this book too! Have you read the Boxcar Children book? It's my favorite chapter book! My mom just finished reading me The Railway Children and I liked that one too, then we watched the movie on Youtube!
