My Ride On The CP Holiday Train

When we drove up and saw the holiday train there were beautiful lights in red, white, pictures of Santa and snowmen, there were lots of colours.
I was shocked when I saw it. I've never seen such a thing in my life.
Click on the first picture below for a slide show:
I've never seen a holiday train on a bridge, I've never seen it on a level crossing. This is the first time in my life I saw it thanks to CP Rail.

Once we got on the train and we found a seat, we saw Salem who works at CP Rail at the front and then we got cookies and hot chocolate.

Then Salem came and gave us a tour. There were sleeper cars and there was a lot of being careful when we were walking from car to car.
Queen Elizabeth and Winston Churchill have ridden on the cars we saw. They were about 100 years old. And some of the wood on the cars you can't find anymore. We went to the back car. It was named after the boss of the railway, Van Horne. It was decorated really well.
There were lots of decorations, there were even Christmas balls hanging from the ceiling.

The train went from the CP General Yard Office to the Junction in Toronto.
When we got to the Junction there was a huge party.

When we got off the train it was called 'detraining.' I learned that word.
There was a big crowd. We got to sit on the rail tracks with the other people from the holiday train.
I just liked the scenery. There was a box car that came down and it made a little stage and all the musicians sang songs and played beautiful music, Rock and Roll!
Here's a video:

It was really fun.
We stayed until the train left.
Here's a video of the Holiday Train leaving:
The Holiday Train travels across the country collecting food for local food banks.  At this stop they raised money too.  15 thousand dollars!

We gave our big bag of food to Bruce who drives the food truck. On the back of the truck it said 'Fighting Hunger'.
Picture
It was awesome.
I felt happy and I felt good to donate something to fight hunger.
I had a great time.

Looks like a lot of fun Nathan! What an amazing experience - and all for a good cause too! By the way, I didn't know the word "de-training" either. Did you know that when people get off an airplane they call it "de-planing"? It's true... :)

You are such a good author, Nathan. From the pictures I can't tell if you liked it or not, though. Just kidding!
I really enjoyed your post. I can't wait to read the next one.

What wonderful experiences you're having, I'm so envious.
You'll treasure these memories forever. I still remember the excitement of going to the beach on a steam train when I was a little girl.

I've always loved steam trains. They're good history and they're cool. What railway was your ride on?

I travelled on the Irish railway, CIE. Now that section of the railway is part of the Dublin area rapid transit system.
