I wrote a story about a boy who sees a train. In the story the boy is 7 because I will be 7 soon. On each page there is a CP locomotive. See if you can find it. I hope you like my story.

My visit to the CP yard was awesome. It was so awesome I thought I was going to faint. I got to put on all the safety gear. I got to wear a vest and engineering glasses. I loved putting on the safety gear. My mom put it on too. I liked it because it was what a real CP engineer would wear. I loved it so much only because it was CP. I loved putting on all the safety gear. We went up to the train control tower. It is really high up. There was a great view there. I could see the locomotive shop, all the train cars, and all of CP yard. I saw lots of trains. A train can be as long as 14 thousand feet long. Doug the engineer gave me a reverser. A reverser is a key to a train. Doug was so nice to give it to me. Each train always has an Engineer and a Conductor on board. The Engineer drives the train and the Conductor is responsible for everything else. I saw lots of CP locomotives, like this one: A locomotive has 4400 horse power per engine. There can be as many as 5 locomotives on a train. The first one has the Engineer and Conductor in it, and the rest are controlled by remote control. That is so cool! I also met Tony Marquis, a CP Vice President. His first job was a GO- train driver. He has 6 brothers and sisters and they've all worked in the train business. So did his dad. Tony said trains are in his blood. I think they are in mine too. I also met Tina who worked for CN Rail for 20 years and CP for 2 years. She told me It can take a train more than 2 kilometres to stop when it is going really fast. But it depends on how heavy the train is. And Salem flew in all the way from Calgary to meet me. We talked a lot about rail safety and not walking on the tracks or putting coins on the tracks. Here she is showing me a map of CP and other railways too. Kurt drove us around. He is in charge of maintaining tracks from Havelock, Ontario to Toronto, Mississagua and Ottawa. He has 26 vehicles in total. Including a CP truck that's new that cuts trees and a 'air forced one', a truck that blows the snow off the tracks. Kurt was really nice. Here is one of the brand new trucks CP Rail has. Kurt was very excited to show me it. It has really awesome lasers in it to make sure the tracks are safe: Kurt drove on the tracks in a really cool tuck. It's called a High Rail truck and it has wheels for the road and wheels for the train tracks. My dad told me it was called a Traik (a train/truck), but it's not. Click on the link below to see it driving on the tracks. (That's me in the front seat!) My blog is called On the Rails and here I am REALLY on the rails! My favourite railroad crossing is Wilkinson crossing, near our cottage. A very nice man I met at the CP Yard named Drew gave me a special book with my name on it. It has lots of charts and train information in it. It is called a sub time table. It is cool. I met so many nice people at the CP Yard. Everyone I met was very friendly. I had one of the best days of my whole life. Thank you CP Rail! Here are a few more photos from my day at the yard:
I just changed my blog address. It has its own now. It's www.aboywholovestrains.com
That's me. I hope you keep reading! When this package arrived I yelled and screamed. This is paradise. I loved it. I ripped it open and inside was: A train horn and sunglasses. They are cool because they have a CP logo on them. I am taking them to school to show all my friends. CP also sent me a great book called The Story of The Canadian Pacific Railway. It has pictures and a story of the history of the railway. My dad says he will read it to me. I can read some of it myself. Thank you to CP Rail for these AMAZING gifts! You can find my train whistle and all kinds of other great CP stuff here: Here is my happy dance! This book talks about how they made the railway. It shows great pictures. It has lots of details like how to build a railway and what material they used, like dynamite. Now I know know the first trains on the railway were steam trains. And there are pictures of where the CP tracks go. Van Horne was the leader of building the CPR because about 159 years ago America was trying to buy up the land so they needed to build the railway to keep all of Canada together, and they founded a company called the Canadian Pacific Railway. And it took a long time but the CPR was built. And it's still around today. This is a great book. I like reading it over and over again. When I read it it makes me feel happy. You should read it too. You can find the book by clicking here: This is a picture of two CP engineers I met at the Wilkinson, Ontario CP railway crossing. They are named John and Sean. They were very nice. It was like eating ice cream it was so good to meet them. It's a great way to remember the engineers if I draw a picture. They were very friendly. They told me to come to Titchborn crossing to watch them unload the new tracks. I went and it was very cool. I hope I see them again when I am standing at a CP railroad crossing.
p.s. I want to go to Smiths Falls to see them again. That's where they are from. I love train stuff. But it can be hard to find. My mom keeps looking around and she found these sheets that I REALLY want. They are super cool and I love them. I put them on my birthday list. Train stuff is not that easy to find. You can find them here:
Here's a song my friend John wrote about my blog: I hear the train a-rollin’ It’s moving through the sticks For years I’ve been a train guy Although I’m only six So I made a deal with C-P Each month we meet without fail You can read all my adventures In my blog on the rails More than 20-thousand k Of shiny C-P track Standard gauge from Montreal To Vancouver and back For the tankers and the flatcars The intermodals and the cranes When I’ve finished watching railways Then I’ll go out and watch again. There’s coaches made for sitting And fancy dining cars There’s cars for observation And looking at the stars But I love the locomotives There’s nothing they can’t do If you read my latest entry Maybe you’ll love them too Want to hear him sing it? Here's a link: My name is Nathan. I am 6.5 years old. I love CP trains. I love that they carry freight across the county and that they are big and they are cool.
I am looking up stuff to help me know more stuff about trains and learn more about trains. I want to learn what working parts are inside trains and I want to learn how the railroad crossing knows when the train is coming. I want to learn what it's like to be an engineer. I want to learn what's around the bends on the train tracks and I want to learn more about old stations around the country. Here are some things I know about trains. I know trains can be two miles long. And I know that CP goes all around the country. I know some of the load limits on train cars and I know what it looks like inside a train cab. I would really like to see trains at different railroad crossings around the country. I have a lot of stuff that I would like to learn and I am only 6 years old. |
